In the late 1960s Ampex developed a machine that could rewind and replay short clips in slow-motion. The American programme 'ABC's Wide World of Sport' first used this equipment in 1967, to replay iconic moments in excruciating detail - moments such as James 'Moose' Barrow's literal fall from grace at the 1968 Winter Olympics.
