Lumitype series 540 photocomposer c.1965; comprising two tape-perforating keyboards

Made:
1965

Lumitype series 540 photocomposer c.1965; comprising two tape-perforating keyboards, a control unit with tape reader, and a complete photographic unit or photo reproducer.

This is the photographic section of a Lumitype series 540 photocomposer which incorporates the slight changes made by Crosfield when they began producing Lumitypes in 1962.

The Lumitype (known in America as the Photon) was the first scientifically design photo-composing machine, with a wide range of typefaces and unique typographical flexibility. The equipment consisted of one or several Lumitype 540 tape-perforating keyboards (this object has two such keyboards), a complete photographic unit or photo reproducer, and a control unit with tape reader.
