Made:
1907 in Stamford

Working model (Scale 1:4) of Martin's patent swathe-turner 1903-4, embodying Boehm's coupling for parallel axles, 1834.

This machine was patented by Mr. W. E. Martin in 1903. It was used for turning over the swaths of hay while the latter was drying. The machine is carried on two wheels which drive the two revolving rakes set obliquely to the direction of motion and having spring tines which always remain vertical. The height of the rakes is adjusted by means of hand levers. Also provided are foot levers for suddenly raising the rakes when passing an obstruction. Stripping bars are fitted to prevent the hay from being carried around.
