Full-scale replica of the Telstar 1 communications satellite original made by Bell Systems and launched in 1962, made by the Aeronautical and General Instruments Company, Croydon, England, 1982.
This is replica of Telstar 1, the world's first commercial communications satellite. It was a joint venture between the American Telephone and Telegraph Company, Bell Telephone laboratories, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and was the first in a series of experimental satellites. The Telstar 1 was launched on July 10, 1962. Telstar 1 was used to broadcast the first live transatlantic television broadcast on July 23 1962, and included images of the Statue of Liberty.
