Medal, enamelled silver, Amalgamated Society of Railway servants, Presented to Bro. Geo. W. Buckby by Leeds No.2 Branch for services rendered on behalf of the O. F having collected over £100 with his Dog "Carlo". April 18th 1912.
Collecting dogs raised money to look after the children of railway workers, left orphaned due to work accidents.
Railway dog “Carlo” was awarded this medal for raising over £100 for the ASSR’s Orphan Fund. Members of the Union contributed a half-penny a week to this fund and passengers were encouraged to donate coins into the purse Carlo carried in his mouth.
