Model of a Portland Lerritt

Model, scale 1:16, of a Portland Lerret, unsigned, by Maurice Castle-Smith, Chideock, Dorset, England, 1938.

This boat worked in tricky current conditions and storms. It was most frequently landed on the steep banks of pebbles to the North and West of Portland Bill. For a fishing boat speed was less important and the lerret is relatively broad widthed/beamed and so able to carry a large and heavy seine-net
