A black leather-bound photograph album with gold embossing for decoration. A British Transport Commission sticker is adhered to the top-right corner of the front cover and reads: “B.T.C. 2566/2. British Transport Commission, Historical Relics Section, Railway Museum, York”. The sticker also bears a printed stamp reading “British Transport Commission Historical Relics, Railway Museum York”, together with the identification number 877/58. The opening page of the album bears the handwritten inscription, “Book of Photographs Compiled by Mr M. Woodhouse, late Superintendent of the Axholme Joint Railway”, written in blue ink. Also adhered to the page is a British Transport Commission label reading: “B.T.C. 2566/2. British Transport Commission, Historical Relics Section, Railway Museum, York.” The label also bears a printed stamp reading “British Transport Commission Historical Relics, Railway Museum, York”, together with the accession number 877/58. In addition, a small handwritten annotation in black ink reading “877/58” appears in the bottom right-hand corner of the page. The album contains sepia-toned photographic prints documenting a variety of North Eastern Railway stations and docks dating from c.1900. The photographs depict locations including Billingham Junction, Wellbury, Brompton Station, Darlington Station, and various docks throughout the country. They also capture scenes of railway infrastructure, locomotives, derailments and railway accidents, as well as people, predominantly railway workers and spectators. Each photograph is accompanied by a handwritten pencil annotation identifying its subject and, in some instances, a numerical reference believed to be the corresponding negative number. Additionally, the album includes five loose sepia-toned photographic prints. One is housed individually in a Melinex sleeve, while the remaining four are mounted on cardboard.
