Safety lamp

Safety lamp, Marsaut, Stokes shut-off, maker: J. Davis and Son, Derby, 1889

This is an oil lamp provided with Stokes' shut-off appliance. This consists of a ring with holes corresponding to the exit holes in the bonnet and placed over them. By rotating the ring slightly the exits are closed, and it can be held in that position by a spring catch. A lead rivet lock is fitted. This pattern is also made as a Clanny and a Mueseler.
