Model of a dredger for tin ore

Made:
c1908 in Haarlem

Model (scale 1:50) of a Dredger for Tin Ore, in glazed case (glass at base chipped) and its base

The dredger represented, which fulfils the double purpose of excavating gravel and separating the tinstone contained in it, was built in 1908 by Messrs. Werf Conrad for the Renong Dredging Co. for use in the Renong and Pak Chan Rivers, Thailand.

The dredging method for the recovery of tinstone from river beds, alluvial flats and benches, was then of comparatively modern date, and was a development of the similar mechanical appliances previously used for the recovery of gold. There was a considerable variation in the construction of such dredgers to suit the depth and character of the deposit and other local conditions.
