The Climax Company were engineers supplying the metal mines of Cornwall with equipment. This is a percussion compressed-air rock drill of the arrangement usual in the early twentieth century, but embodying some special features patented between 1896 and 1908 by R. and W. C. Stephens. The drill was made in four sizes; the one shown has a cylinder 3.25 in. [84mm] diameter by 150mm stroke, weighed 280 Ib., and was stated to be capable of drilling holes 37mm diameter in granite at a speed of up to 100mm per minute.
