Safety lamp

Safety lamp, Davis Kirkby, Marsaut type, maker: J. Davis and Son (Derby) Ltd, Derby, marking: makers name and Davis Kirkby miners safety lamp approved type no.2, 1925

This is a modern form of the Marsaut lamp with two gauzes, embodying the deflector principle. The air enters through the apertures in the flange supporting the bonnet, and is deflected downwards through the gauzes by an annular diaphragm. The bonnet is made of sheet iron and is permanently fixed to the lamp. The lamp reservoir is fitted with electric re -lighting equipment which enables the lamp to be re -lit without unscrewing the reservoir. A lead plug lock is fitted to the reservoir. The illuminating power is claimed to be 1.0 candlepower with suitable fuel.
