Mug, ceramic, depicting a locomotive named Express with two carriages and a flat truck in a pastoral scene with steep mountains.

Bute cylindrical body and D shaped handle.

Depicting a decorative transfer of a locomotive 1830s express train. The Engine has a name plate with “Express”. The engine is followed by a tender, two passenger carriages full of people, then a flatbed carrying a roadway carriage.

The train is passing a mountainous pastoral scene with one dwelling and a church. The overall image is a well transferred stencil in a dark brown or black slip. The bottom of the engine is filled in with a maroon glaze. The bottom plate of the tender is filled in with a lime green glaze. Both passenger carriages have three separate panelling’s coloured in with a different colour. Carriage one is in order of maroon, lime green, then maroon. Carriage two is in order of lime green, maroon, lime green. Door area of the riding carriage being carried on the flat bed is filled in with maroon glaze.
