Mug, ceramic, depicting 1830s express train with two carriages and carriage truck in pastoral scene, poor condition. Ceramic mug with ‘Planet’ class stylistic transfers from 1830-40. Bute cylindrical body and half heart pulled handle. Depicting a decorative transfer of a locomotive 1830s express train with two people on the foot plate driving the engine, two carriages with passengers and a riding carriage on a flat bed at the end. The train is passing a mountainous pastoral scene with one dwelling and a church. The overall image is well stencilled in a dark brown or black slip. About 2/3 of the foliage through the scenery is glazed over in lime green with a large brush. The train engines smokestack is similarly filled in with lime green glaze. Engine name plate is filled in with ochre glaze. The 3 engine bay decorative panels are filled in with a red rose glaze. Both passenger carriages have 3 separate panelling’s coloured in with a different colour in order of red rose, ochre, then green. Fabric on the riding carriage being carried on the flat bed is filled in with red rose glaze. The roof of the dwelling in the scenery is filled with red rose.
