Small-scale melt extrusion unit for the production of polypropylene/nylon filament, 1987. This small-scale melt extrusion unit was built by Dr E Dyson of Bradford University for teaching and demonstration purposes. Nylon and polypropylene filament samples can be produced in a range of sizes and densities by varying extrusion temperature, pressure and stretch. The piston in the heated extrusion cylinder containing the polymer granules or rod, is driven by a screw ram worked by a variable-speed motor.
