Swedish spinning wheel made in the traditional Swedish style of c. 1800

Made:
1935 in Sweden

Swedish spinning wheel made in the traditional Swedish style of c. 1800, with a floor standing distaff.

This spinning wheel is made in the traditional Swedish spinning wheel style developed between the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The large 25 inch diameter wheel reduces the speed of treadling and is suitable for woollen spinning though it can be used for flax. Traditionally, the stock is level with the floor and from this stock rises up the smaller stock to carry the mother of all with a screw mounted on it for band tensioning. Two horizontal ties screw into the vertical wheel supports; these ties are screwed to give wheel alignment adjustment. There is dual band drive with the bobbin rotating at a faster speed.
