Artificial mercury horizon in fitted wooden case, made by John Dennett Potter, Poultry, City of London, England, 1860-1870. Consisting of a rectangular cast iron trough, brass-lined, roof-shaped cover with glazed side panels and circular mercury storage jar with threaded stopper and spout. Used by the Hydrographic Offfice of the British Admiralty (broad arrow property mark).
