Sectioned condenser microphone, by R.C.A. Photophone Ltd., Sunbury-on-Thames, Middlesex, England, 1924-1934
In 1917, E. C. Wente described an electrostatic or condenser microphone which he had specially designed for the measurement of sound intensities; this object is a modified form developed by the R.C.A. Photophone Company and used until about 1931 for sound recording in "talking pictures" work. The function of the instrument is to convert the sound waves impinging on the diaphragm into the corresponding electrical oscillations, without distortion.
