Payment card manual imprinter, provided by Barclays Merchant Services to the Science Museum gift shop, made by Bartizan Corporation, Yonkers, New York, USA, model CM2020, US patent numbers 3874291 and 3862598, for capturing card details at point-of-sale. Attached imprinting plate marked '4210092 SCIENCE MUSEUM LONDON SW7 942 664 293 0'. Made 1990-98.
Imprinters were used to capture credit card details at the point of sale, and to prepare a slip for the cardholder. This allowed a financial transaction to take place between parties without the need for any money or a cheque to change hands physically. Made by Bartizan Corporation, Yonkers, New York, USA.
