Clarence Becker. Enquiries to Science Museum, London

Drawing of the "Old Sarah" engine, Newmarket, Silkstone Colliery, near Leeds. Side view and end view, scale 1:24

This engine, known as 'Old Sarah', worked at Newmarket Silkstone Colliery till dismantled in 1918. The cylinder was 54 in. diam. by 5 ft. stroke, and there was a separate condenser. The Science Museum took an interest in the engine though it acquired the engine from Pentrich (inv. 1920-124). Clarence Becker made this drawing as well as those of the Pentrich engine, for the museum.
