Coloured drawing of vertical engines used for locomotive shops of the G.E.R. at Norwich

Coloured drawing (scale 1:8), partly in section, of vertical engines used for driving the locomotive shops of the G.E.R. at Norwich, from about 1840 until 1922

Two high-pressure single-cylinder vertical engines of the form introduced by William Fairbairn are here combined to drive one overhead shaft. The engines were built by Messrs. William Fairbairn & Co., of Manchester, about 1840, for the railway locomotive shops at Norwich, and remained in use till 1922, when electric motors were substituted for the duty.
