Fielding high speed rotary engine, built by Fielding & Platt, hydraulic engineers of Gloucester

This engine was patented in 1885 by J Fielding, and was an attempt to produce a novel engine design, able to operate at high speeds and having no 'dead centres', where a reciprocating piston moving back and forth is unable to exert a turning force.
