Model of India rubber disc valve for air pump

This full-sized model represents a valve largely used for air-pump buckets and foot valves in steam plant. The valve takes the form of a simple disc of vulcanized india-rubber supported by a grating; the lift is determined by a perforated guard supported by a central bolt which is clamped to a bridge piece. The disc is free to move so that it can "beat" over its whole surface. India-rubber is found to be very durable, if oil be absent.
