Drawing of Yorkshire Boiler (scale 1:12; details 1:2) made in Museum from information supplied by Messrs. Holdsworth & Sons Ltd., Bradford

This shows a type of boiler patented by Mr. W. H. Casmey in 1906. It differs from the Lancashire boiler in that the flues incline upward, and increase in diameter from front to back. This construction has the effect of gradually reducing the quantity of water surrounding the flues and increasing the heating surface as the temperature of the furnace gases falls, thus giving a more uniform generation of steam through- out. It is claimed that a Yorkshire boiler may be considerably smaller than a Lancashire boiler of equal power.
