Poster, London Midland & Scottish Railway, Shap Fell, The Route of the Royal Scot by Donald Maxwell, about 1925. Coloured lithograph depicting a view looking down on Shap Fell across the fell towards trees, a waterfall and mountains. In the middle distance is a passing train, leaving a trail of smoke. Accompanying text reads: "Nearly twenty centuries ago came the Roman legions by way of Shap Fell; it is two hundred years since Bonnie Prince Charlie passed there on his tragic journey south. To-day Shap is a landmark on the main line to Scotland of the London Midland and Scottish Railway; the famous Pass rises one yard in seventy-five for four miles and the summit is nearly a thousand feet above sea level. From Shap there is a wonderful view across the hills of the Lake District to Mardale and Haweswater." Below are the letters "LMS" and the company crest. Format: quad royal. Dimensions: 40 x 50 inches, 1016 x 1270mm.
