Simple theodolite, maker unknown, England, 1600-1630.

Simple theodolites were used for measuring angles during land surveys. This theodolite is inscribed with the scale '0(5)90(5)0(5)90(5)0' for measuring angles in degrees. It has one pair of fixed sights and originally would have been fitted with a magnetic compass, which is not present.
