models of Celestial hemispheres (Kapali)
1884-1886
Models of (a) Celestial hemispheres (Kapali) (b) equatorially mounted circles (Chakra Yantra), scale 1:24, in the Jaipur Observatory
The hemispherical bowls were used for converting right ascension and declination into latitude and longitude. They are calculators rather than onserving instruments. The horizontal rim of the bowl can represent either the equator or the ecliptic.
