Annotated 1/2 inch scale model (1:24) of a compound beam pumping engine by Worthington-Simpson Ltd, 1881, originally built for the West Middlesex Waterworks, Hammersmith, London.
This fine model by model engineer GE Hartung shows the type of powerful compound engine which became widely used in Britain’s growing towns and cities to deliver drinking water to people’s homes. Worthington-Simpson were one of the leading manufacturers of engines and plant for water pumping.
