Design for a Sultan's palace
Drawing. [Design for a Sultan's palace] / Westwood Baillie & Co, n.d. [c1860-1861]. Pencil, pen and line, watercolour, on paper; image [sight] 47x54.5cm, mounted with washline and gilt edge in Florentine gilded frame 69.5x85x3cm. One of a set of four drawings, three interior and one exterior views. This gives an interior view of a cast iron and glass palace, with ornate tracery, verdant plants and tranquil water in a central aisle with gazebo style reclining area at crossing; structure derivative of the Crystal Palace; being an artist's projections for designs for an Indian purchaser. The Palace probably was not built. From the Archives of Westwood Baillie & Co, iron founders, bridge and ship builders London 1839-1893.
