Storage jar, glazed earthenware, possibly Persian
Drug jars like this served a dual purpose in early modern apothecaries - they were both storage and decoration. This jar has a bright blue glaze and is decorated with a repeating pattern. These jars were used to hold the medicinal ingredients that were used to create remedies in the apothecary and at home. The parchment lid would have been tied with string to keep the contents fresh.
