Fibreglass model Allosaurus
- maker:
- Ray Harryhausen
Painted resin fibreglass model, cast from original mould by Ray Harryhausen of creature from 'One Million Years BC' (1966): Allosaurus. This model, in resin and fibreglass, was made from the same mould as the original, which was cast in latex around a metal armature.
One of the pioneers of stop motion animation and an inspiration to and influence on many who came after him. Harryhausen worked single-handedly to create sequences in which giant crabs, dinosaurs and skeletons fought with humans.
Harryhausen devised an ingenious new method of combining live action footage of people with stop motion footage of animated creatures, he called it Dynamation. Dynamation was used to animate this juvenile Allosaurus' attack on a village and its residents in the film 'One Million Years BC'.
