Medal. Duddell Medal of the Physical Society, awarded to optical instrument maker Harold Dennis Taylor (1850-1943) of Thomas Cooke and Sons. Bronze; ht 4mm x diameter 63mm in case, 9.5x9.5x2.5cm. Rim legend: Harold Dennis Taylor 1933. Obverse: legend, William du Bois Duddell MDCCCLXXII [1872] MCMXVII [1917]; bust relief profile to L, inscribed on base M.G. Gillick 1922. Reverse: legend, The Physical Society / Rervm Cognoscere Cavsas; relief of classical Muse kneeling, holding the world in one hand and a lit lamp in other, initialled in plinth at feet M.G.
