Medal commemorating balloon ascent of Blanchard (1753-1809) at Nuremberg, Germany, nd. [12 November 1787]. Metal [lead?]; 47mm diameter, thickness 3mm. Obverse, legend Blanchard vicesimum octavum faciens iter; low relief profile head and shoulders to right in wig. Artist signed at base, monogram MR. [M Reich]. Reverse, legend, Gallia saepius plausit. Iam Germania Plau: Exergue, Norimberge: Scene, representation of Blanchard in his balloon above cityscape of Nuremberg. Jean-Pierre Blanchard making his 28th balloon ascent. France has applauded often - Now let Germany applaud.
