Glass phial of 'Avloquine' solution
Glass phial of 'Avloquine' solution, one of a series of ten anti-malarial drug preparations from ICI Ltd. (Pharmaceuticals Division), 1951-1975.
Avloquine was once a brand name for a chloroquine-based anti-malarial medication produced by Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI Ltd) during the mid-20th century. Chloroquine was developed as a synthetic alternative to quinine, which had long been used in the treatment of malaria, and became the most widely used drug against the disease.
It’s widespread use has become more limited due to significant levels of drug resistance in the parasitic micro-organisms found in mosquitos that are the cause of malarial infections.
