Two-tone green Trimphone with dial (tele 8772G), also known as a Phoenixphone, from the Snowdon Collection, manufactured for British Telecom, British, 1982.

The Trimphone was first introduced in 1965, and was a thoroughly modern phone, with its small and narrow design, 'warbling' ring tone (as opposed to the tradition bell), and luminous dial (although this feature was discontinued due to worries about radiation, as they were illuminated with tritium gas). The Trimphone design was varied several times over the years, including a version with push-button dialling rather than a dial, and a set of luxury, leather-clad phones, also known as Deltaphones. This was the final new development in the design of the Trimphone. The Pheonixphone was a re-introduction of the earlier design. The first set of 'phoenix phones' were known as the Snowdon collection, with six new colour scheme chosen by 'leading design consultants', with Lord Snowdon, Queen Elizabeth's brother-in-law, believed to be one of them.
