Model one of two, scale 1:16, of a ship's life boat fitted with a Welin Quadrant type Davit, patented by Axel Welin, fitted to an imitation deck on base, by Paxton and Co., London, England, 1905. The movement of the tooth quadrant gave the davits a horizontal motion overboard so that the boat could be rapidly lowered over the side of a ship in an evacuation. Welin's inventions were fitted to the RMS Titanic and after the disaster in 1912 sales of the davits skyrocketed.
