Both contemporary media coverage and reports of early Everest expeditions and the histories of them, have tended to focus on the British climbers. Fewer details have been recorded about the many local people who were vital to these expeditions, which would not have been possible without significant amounts of indigenous knowledge and labour. Local people were more used to the challenging weather conditions in the Himalayas and had clothing like this fur cap which was made for that environment .
