Tinder-tube (length 3 ins) of silver or nickel; curved, with round-linked nickel chains attached; on back of steel, a large lion statant gardant; initials "P.B." stamped on flat of tail; collected by Dr. Cuthbert Christy, at Gondokoro, on the White Nile, Central Africa. ? Spain. [One of three examples (nos 880-882), all of nickel or silver and curved ... in imitation of the tubes made of curved Armadillo-tails... They were probably made in Spain where they are said to have been used commonly. Clearly they were either made there in imitation of Armadillo-tail Tinder tubes brought from South America or the latter were made by travelling Spaniards ... Two chains are attached to the tube in a complicated manner, the object of which is not obvious.]
