Tinder-tube (length 3 1/4 ins) of silver; curved, with chain attached; a specially-elegant example, having two of its sides flattened, each decorated with floral designs, embossed; on back of steel, a large prowling tiger, in steel, nickelled, on a silver mount decorated with floral designs. ? Spain.[One of three examples (nos 880-882), all of nickel or silver and curved ... in imitation of the tubes made of curved Armadillo-tails... They were probably made in Spain where they are said to have been used commonly. Clearly they were either made there in imitation of Armadillo-tail Tinder tubes brought from South America or the latter were made by travelling Spaniards ... Two chains are attached to the tube in a complicated manner, the object of which is not obvious.]
