HiRISE charge coupled device

Charge coupled device (CCD) as used in the HiRISE (High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment) camera on Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter

This CDD, which formed a part of the HiRISE (high resolution imaging science experiment) onboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, produced the most high definition images of Mars to date with resolutions of 0.3m/pixel.

This camera is more powerful than any other sent to another planet in the history of space technology, and has captured evidence of potential pingos, concentric cracks, scalloped terrain and dunes that may suggest evidence of water.
