This small enamelled tinplate magic lantern is intended for use in the home. It has a single condenser and a single objective lens. Illumination is provided by an oil lamp with a glass chimney. It has three boxes of GBN glass slides, some with panoramas and others with four or six circular pictures per slide.
Bing was a Nuremberg-based toy manufacturing company renowned for their production of toy steam engines, trains, dolls house furniture and magic lanterns. They began advertising tin-made magic lanterns in 1886. By the turn of the 20th century, the firm employed several thousand workers (5000 in 1914) and was a leading toy toy manufacturer with their good sold by leading department stores around the world.
