
W Butcher magic lantern in metal case. For 3 1/4 x 3 1/4 inch slides. 12 inch equiv. projection lens, held in focusing mount by locking screw. Rack and pinion focusing, flasher. Three draw lens barrel. Circular sprung gate, screw adjusted. Double condenser. WIth two wooden push-pull slide carriers, one with slide raising device. Has a Triumph ES electric lamp fitting with adjustable parabolic mirror and 500w lamp which has been separately catalogues as 1990-5036/7177.

Firms such as W Butcher and Son, J H Steward and W C Hughes manufactured elaborate magic lanterns that were used by projectionists to give spectacular shows. Cheaper lanterns were also produced for home use and simple lanterns were made for children.
