Cased daguerreotype portrait of Julia Margaret Cameron and her daughter, Julia Hay Cameron,1845, probably taken in Kolkuta (Calcutta) before January 1845. With ink inscription 'Julia Hay Cameron Feb 10th 1845. This for me to keep. Given to my Julia by her request. Her own choice'.The daguerreotype shows Julia Margaret Cameron at the age of 29, together with her daughter, Julia. The same daughter who would buy Julia Margaret Cameron her first camera twenty years later.

The daguerreotype shows Cameron at the age of 29, together with her daughter, Julia Hay Cameron, the same daughter who would buy Julia Margaret Cameron her first camera twenty years later. An inscription on the back is dated 10th February 1845 and reads 'This for me to keep. Given to my Julia by her request. Her own choice'. It is possible the image was made in India, Cameron and her daughter were in Calcutta until January 1845.
