Coat of Arms, New South Wales Government Railways

An ovoid cast white metal plate bearing the arms of the Department of Railways, New South Wales. Depicted are a lion and a kangaroo supporting a shield bearing a cross on which are depicted a lion and four stars, in the first and fourth quarters there is a hanged ram and in the second and third quarters a wheatsheaf. The crest above the shield depicts a rising sun. The motto reads ORTA . RECENS . QUAM . PURA . NITES. A second inscription reads THE DEPARTMENT OF RAILWAYS NEW SOUTH WALES 1949. All decoration is raised and unpainted whilst background is painted red.
