Following jobs as photographer for a local London newspaper and for the General Electric Company, Bailey became a freelance. He discovered his vocation when he assisted a photographer on a feature film. Since 1992 he has worked as a unit stills and special photographer.

Pitt played Achilles in this epic about the siege of Troy. This was the last time Bailey covered a film with conventional photographic cameras. Since then, he has used digital cameras.
