Following jobs as photographer for a local London newspaper and for the General Electric Company, Bailey became a freelance. He discovered his vocation when he assisted a photographer on a feature film. Since 1992 he has worked as a unit stills and special photographer.

Bailey likes to make panoramic images, if appropriate for the subject. The scene on the beachhead suits this treatment.
