Drug jar for white vaseline

Drug jar for white vaseline, containing traces of brown product, pink and white ceramic jar labelled "WHITE VASELINE" white label with red and gold border.

Vaseline is a brand name for a petroleum jelly, first brought to market in the United States in 1870 by Robert Cheesbrough. It is a by-product of distilling oil but was noticed by those working around rigs and sources of oil. Chesebrough noticed that oil workers would smear their skin with the residue from their drills, as it had the property to heal their cuts and burns. After several experiments, he extracted petroleum jelly from the residue.
