'Iron Man' television camera pedestal, made by EMI Research Laboratories Ltd, UK, 1931-1941. This television pedestal was first used at Alexandra Palace in 1936.

Early television cameras sometimes sat on wooden tripods, but at other times on heavy pedestals, dubbed 'Iron Man' pedestals because they were big, heavy and made of metal. The wheel on the back of the pedestal adjusts the height of the camera. The three screws in the base secures the pedestal to the ground, allowing the camera to pivot and be angled up and down from a fixed point.
