Silhouette of woman
Cut paper silhouette of woman in bonnet, on card 75x110mm, in gilt wood frame.
A framed silhouette portrait of a woman, created by an unknown artist in about 1810.
The artist has added faint highlights to the woman's bonnet - giving both depth and detail to the portrait.
Silhouettes became popular in Britain in the late 1700s. They were named after Etienne de Silhouette (1709-1767), a French finance minister and amateur profile artist.
