Monarch Ethopticon Bi-Unial Magic Lantern, made by Riley Brothers of Bradford in the 1880s.For 3 1/4 x 3 1/4 inch slides; two 12 inch lenses with flashers and tinter slots, rack focusing. No light sources, one tray. Two-way mixing tap on rear for oxy-hydrogen supplies. Plush curtain. Double condensers.
This double-lens magic lantern projected 3 1/4"x 3 1/4" magic lantern slides. Effectively two slide projectors on top of one another, it could be used to present sophisticated magic lantern shows. Images could be superimposed on each other, and views could be transformed from day to night by means of opening one lens and closing another. The lamphouse held a limelight illuminant which the operator could adjust through the velvet curtain.
