VEB Carl Zeiss Ikon Jena, East Germany. Solid body 35mm refelx camera for 35mm film 24x36mm. Zeiss, Jena, Tessar lens F:5cm f/3.5-22, No 3220957, interchangeable, screw thread, helical focusing through pentaprism. Fabric focal plane shutter, horizontal travel 1/2/5/10/20/50/100/200/500/1000/B, delayed action lever. Body release, with lock-on time exposures. Film type and speed indicator on rewind knob. Knob windon.

The Contax S was launched at the Leipzig Spring Fair in 1949. It was an innovative camera, and had a fixed eyelevel pentaprism finder. Together with the Rectaflex and the Alpa Prisma Reflex, the Contax S was one of the first pentaprism SLRs.
